HOWARD COLLEGE
Howard College, located on a spacious campus at 1001 Birdwell Lane in Big Spring, Texas, offers a wide variety of associate degree plans and certificate programs spanning areas of study such as agriculture, business, cosmetology, criminal justice, dental hygiene, general studies, information technology and nursing.
For students wishing to transfer to a four year university after completion at Howard College, course offerings are abundant and include areas of study like Biology, Chemistry, Drama/Theater, Economics, Education, Foreign Language, History, Mathematics, Music, Psychology and Sociology, just to name a few. Laboratory facilities are located on and off campus and offer the students opportunities to work in various learning environments.
Student life is fun and exciting at Howard College and student organizations such as the Student Government Association, Athletic Programs, Phi Theta Kapa Honor Society, Mexican-American Student Organization, Howard College Diplomats and the Baptist Student Ministries keep things energetic through various activities. The campus includes residence halls for men and women, a 90,000 square foot coliseum complex, a baseball park, a softball park, and a football stadium with a seating capacity of ten thousand, utilized and maintained by the Big Spring Independent School District. The Howard County Junior College District property includes 276 acres of land in Martin County, near Stanton, Texas, which is used as an agricultural research and demonstration center. The college also leases 20 acres three miles east of Big Spring that houses a rodeo arena and livestock pens.
Howard College is governed by a seven member Board of Trustees elected by the voters in Howard County. Dr. Cheryl T. Sparks has served as President of Howard College since 1992 and continues to lead the college district which includes the Howard College Big Spring Campus, SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf, the Howard College San Angelo campus, the Howard College Lamesa campus and the Correctional Institutions Studies programs.
Accreditations
Howard College is accredited by The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees. Other accreditations include the National League for Nursing, the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Howard College has been approved by The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and The Texas Workforce Commission for Veteran's Educational Training.
