SAFETY
Big Spring is a community in which its citizens can feel safe and secure. Our Police Force is excellent and very attentive to the community's needs. The police force consists of 44 sworn officers and 22 civilian personnel. The police department actively participates in the Neighborhood Watch Program, citizens can enroll in the Citizen's Police Academy and citizens can call on the Crime Prevention Unit to check their homes and businesses.

Scenic Moutain Medical Center
Scenic Mountain Medical Center is a 150-bed general acute care hospital accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO). The hospital employs over three hundred (300) employees who provide the highest quality service to our customers. There are over thirty (30) primary care and specialty physicians, many of who are board certified and practice at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Each department is equipped with modern technology and staffed with well-trained personnel.

West Texas VA Health Care System
The West Texas VA Health Care System provides health care to veterans located in 46 counties in West Texas and Lea County, New Mexico. During fiscal year 2002 the facility provided 16,100 veterans with 106,200 outpatient visits and 1,450 inpatient episodes of care.

Big Spring State Hospital
The Big Spring State Hospital is a 170-bed psychiatric hospital serving people in a 58 county area in West Texas and the Texas Panhandle. The hospital is owned and operated by the Department of State Health Services and is Howard County's largest employer with a workforce of nearly 600 people, including physicians, nurses, social workers, therapists, and direct care workers.
